How to check which application is using your microphone or camera?

Now you must be wondering what to do if you suddenly see an orange or a green dot and you are not sure which app is using your microphone or camera? Do not worry it is easy to find out which app. In fact, it can tell you which app has recently accessed the camera or microphone, by adding the word “recently” to the name of the application.

  • From the Home screen press the Assistive Touch button and choose Control Center or simply swipe down from the top right-hand side of the iPhone screen.
  • You will be able to see the Control Center.
  • On the top of the Control Center screen, you will be able to see the names of the app using the microphone or camera, or both.

What to do if you do not want the app to use the camera or microphone?

When you initially install any application and open it for the first time, it asks you for the permissions. We sometimes choose ‘Yes’ for everything without understanding. This is wrong. If you had already given permission initially then the app can use the function of your iPhone for which you have agreed.

When you see an orange or a green dot on your iPhone, immediately check which application is using your iPhone camera or microphone. If you are not sure the app should need access to the camera or microphone, immediately stop and close the app.

Go back to Settings and change the access settings for the application or delete it.

How to get rid of orange dot on iPhone?

However, people who have difficulty differentiating orange and green colors may choose to change the shape from dot to square. To change the shape of this notification, follow the steps.

  • Go to Settings
  • Open Accessibility
  • Choose the option Display & Text Size
  • Enable the option Differentiate Without Color by sliding the slider to Green or ON

After this change, the orange dot will change to an orange square, while the green dot remains green and a dot. Hence to understand, if you see a square, it means the microphone is being used and if it is a dot then the camera is in use.
