Green dot on iPhone
If your camera (or both camera and microphone) is being used it shows a green dot at the top-right hand side of the notch. Most commonly seen when you open the Camera app or Facetime, almost immediately you will see a small green dot appear on top of the screen.

Do not worry it is easy to find out which app. In fact, it can tell you which app has recently accessed the camera or microphone, by adding the word “recently” to the name of the application.
- From the Home screen press the Assistive Touch button and choose Control Center or simply swipe down from the top right-hand side of the iPhone screen.
- You will be able to see the Control Center.
- On the top of the Control Center screen, you will be able to see the names of the app using the microphone or camera, or both.
What to do if you do not want the app to use the camera or microphone?
When you initially install any application and open it for the first time, it asks you for the permissions. We sometimes choose ‘Yes’ for everything without understanding. This is wrong. - Go to Settings
- Open Accessibility
- Choose the option Display & Text Size
- Enable the option Differentiate Without Color by sliding the slider to Green or ON
After this change, the orange dot will change to an orange square, while the green dot remains green and a dot. Hence to understand, if you see a square, it means the microphone is being used and if it is a dot then the camera is in use.
